India Rising: A New Global Powerhouse in Metal Processing and Steel Production

India is rapidly establishing itself as one of the world’s most dynamic industrial hubs. With a surging steel sector and a robust metal processing market, the nation is laying the groundwork for a new era of construction, energy, and advanced manufacturing. Amidst this boom, SECO/WARWICK Group—a global leader in heat treatment technology—is strategically expanding its footprint to support this industrial revolution.

Recent market analyses confirm a major shift in the global industrial landscape. While traditional manufacturing giants face stagnation, India is accelerating, driven by ambitious government targets and a booming private sector.

Steel Production: Ambition Meets Reality

The trajectory of India’s steel industry is nothing short of impressive. For the 2024/2025 period, the country successfully reached a production capacity of 205 million tons, meeting its strategic goals. However, the vision extends much further: according to reports from MP Financial Advisory Services LLP, India is on track to hit 300 million tons by the 2030/2031 fiscal year.

The pace of this growth distinguishes India from the rest of the world. Between 2016 and 2024, Indian steel production grew by an average of 5% annually, compared to a global average of just 1.77%. Since 2020, this has accelerated to 8% per year, sharply contrasting with the production declines seen in China.

Current expansion projects aim to add another 167 million tons of capacity by the end of the decade, with the private sector responsible for 83% of this volume. This surge is further bolstered by government initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steels.

The Evolution of the Metal Processing Market

It is not just raw steel that is growing; the entire ecosystem of metal processing is evolving. Analysts at Mordor Intelligence project a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.38% for the sector between 2025 and 2030.

This growth is fueled by infrastructure development—bridges, railways, and power grids—and technological advancements in automation and robotics. As the aviation and electric vehicle sectors expand, there is a skyrocketing demand for specialized equipment. Manufacturers are increasingly seeking advanced solutions, including CNC systems, precision casting tools, and high-efficiency aluminum furnaces for heat treatment melting to process high-strength alloys required for modern transportation.

SECO/WARWICK: Local Production, Global Standards

Recognizing this potential, SECO/WARWICK has deeply entrenched itself in the local market. The company recently inaugurated a new manufacturing facility near Pune. Spanning 4,000 m² within a Special Economic Zone, the plant places the company in the heart of India’s industrial corridor.

“We have thought this investment through very strategically. India is one of the fastest-growing economies with enormous production needs,” says Sławomir Woźniak, CEO of SECO/WARWICK Group.

“Having our own production facility here relieves us from the logistical burden of importing heavy machinery. However, location is secondary to quality. It is vital that SECO/WARWICK products maintain their global standard regardless of where they are built. That is why we implemented a rigorous training program for our Indian team to guarantee that our brand promise is kept.”

Manufacturing Capabilities on the Ground

The new facility is not merely an assembly point; it is a full-scale production hub. It enables the company to deliver “Made in India” solutions backed by European and American engineering.

Arvind Agarwal, the new Managing Director at SECO/WARWICK India, highlights the facility’s capacity:

“Our current capabilities allow us to manufacture up to four continuous brazing lines or 23 vacuum furnaces in a single cycle. We are already delivering CAB lines, including projects for Narain Cooling Technologies, and the first locally produced vacuum solutions. We can build CAB lines up to 63 meters in length, securing the needs of even the largest partners. My mission is to ensure we provide the high quality known from Western markets, right here in India.”

Toward Industrial Independence

The simultaneous rise of the steel and metal processing sectors is creating a self-reinforcing cycle of growth. This development is not just about economic volume; it is a strategic move toward industrial self-reliance, energy security, and climate responsibility.

India is transforming into a global industrial hub, capable of delivering complex projects ranging from urban infrastructure to defense systems. By combining local manufacturing power with global technological expertise, partners like SECO/WARWICK are playing a crucial role in this transformation.
